Laertès et Ophélia Claudius a succédé au trône de Danemarck [sic] à son frère Hamlet qu'il a fait périr par le poison ; et la reine a accepté la main de l'assassin de son époux. Instruit de ce / crime par l'ombre de son père qui lui est apparue, le jeune Hamlet contrefait l'insensé pour mieux assurer sa vengeance. Dans une entrevue avec sa mère, il tue Polonius qui s'était caché / derrière une tapisserie pour l'épier. Bientôt il est obligé de quitter la cour. Laertès a reconnu sa soeur.
